Narooma: swimming with Seals

Day 6 - 29th of March

We crossed the border from Victoria into New South Wales, already causing some excitement since it was our first time in NSW.

The excitement built up even more as we approached the little town of Narooma after a 3 hour drive. We had been looking forward to this day a lot since neither of us had ever swam with seals before. After a long hesitation we chose to go for the snorkelling tour instead of diving tour. In Indonesia we both dove and snorkelled with manta rays and we enjoyed the snorkelling much more than the diving there. Since we thought the experiences are kind of comparable in a way, we chose to go for the snorkelling tour here.

After arriving we had a walk around town an checked out some of the sights such as the Mill Bay Boardwalk, Bar Rock Lookout and the Seal Rocks. We grabbed a light lunch and headed to Narooma Charters where we got the briefing and tried on the necessary equipment. We left the shore of Narooma around 1PM and headed towards Montague Island or Barunguba where the seal colony resides. After a wonderful experience with the Australian Fur Seals we returned to the shore.

Once back on the mainland we hopped in our car and drove off to the highest altitude that Australia has to offer. Destination: Mt Kosciuszko! But first we spent the night at Island Bend Campground for our first night in New South Wales!
